New Firehall Concept Building
Community Vision Project

From Emergency
To Community

Reimagining Salt Spring Island's historic firehall as a vibrant hub for culture, commerce, and connection. A thoughtful transformation honoring our past while building our future.

A Vision for Transformation

We see an opportunity to shift this essential piece of infrastructure from a single-purpose emergency facility to a multi-functional center for culture, commerce, and connection.

Architectural Renewal

Transforming a utilitarian emergency facility into a warm, welcoming community landmark featuring natural cedar siding and expansive glass.

Local Economy

Creating a permanent home for our farmer's market to support local producers, artisans, and sustainable agriculture year-round.

Community Connection

Establishing a central gathering place that fosters social interaction, cultural exchange, and community vitality every single day.

Honoring History,
Building the Future

The original firehall served us well as a critical piece of emergency infrastructure. Its design was purely operational—large garage doors, specialized storage, and a focus on rapid deployment. It signaled security, but not engagement.

Our new concept respects this history while acknowledging that our community's needs have evolved. We are moving from a building designed for efficiency to one designed for humanity. From a fortress of safety to a beacon of community vitality.
